The Malayan Tapir (Tenuk Malaysia in Malay), known for its distinctive black-and-white coloration, resembles a cross between an elephant and a pig. Weighing between 250 and 320 kg and reaching lengths of 1.8 to 2.4 m, this iconic Malaysian species is fully protected under the Wildlife Conservation Act 2010 [Act 716]. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species classifies the Malayan tapir as “Endangered.”
Interestingly, in Japanese folklore, the tapir is associated with happy dreams. Known as a “dream eater,” it is believed to consume nightmares, leaving only pleasant dreams behind.
Malayan Tapir I
Then it started grabbing my attention~
